At RanaeArt & Friends, I painted various types of Pennsylvania Dutch Hex signs ranging from double distelfinks,
8-stars, navigation, Wilkommen, and more. Inspired by “ghost hex signs” which created a relief in old barns from the types of paint used, traditional style hex signs were formed into 3D signs that could hold up to the weather and keep a long lasting color.
These signs went through a long process of raw material board, to sanding, priming, and endless layers and coats of colored paint, with a final touch of protective coating. The finished products could be hung inside or outside with some of the hex signs having their meanings written on the back. Signs for other brands and local companies were also custom created and painted to each client’s needs.
